A Fresh Approach to Food Distribution: The Transmed Sustainability Story

In the dynamic sector of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) distribution, efficiency isn’t just about how quickly you move goods. It is also about how effectively you power the journey.

Transmed Food Service in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) manages a diverse range of premium food products, including meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, and dairy. This requires massive warehouse operations and smart storage protocols. But maintaining safe storage temperatures for perishable goods during this journey is highly energy-intensive.

As an industry leader with over 15 years of experience across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, and Ghana, Transmed knew that to stay ahead and achieve its ambitious sustainability goals, it needed to master its energy consumption.

Take a closer look at the Transmed case study video for more details:

The Challenge

Transmed faced the challenge of gaining complete energy visibility without impacting daily operations. They wanted:

  • Total visibility and asset-level control across their warehouse facilities.
  • Data-driven decisions with monthly and quarterly benchmarking to drive efficiency.
  • Proven technology to verify the performance of energy-saving solutions in real-time.
  • Measurable and verifiable carbon reduction results to meet corporate social responsibility goals.

The Solution

Best.Energy installed the Eniscope energy management system to monitor energy use and identify hidden energy waste across the facility. By implementing advanced asset-level monitoring, the team pinpointed specific inefficiencies. This included ways to optimise the heavy-duty chiller compressors, which are vital to food safety.

To drive further savings, smart technology known as CUES - Chilled Unit Energy Saver - was also installed. This technology is specifically designed to reduce the energy consumption of refrigeration units without compromising food temperature and integrity. This introduced an element of optimisation and control, which reduced power consumption and ensured food safety.

The Results

Access to real-time energy data delivered immediate, high-impact results for Transmed, proving that sustainability and profitability go hand-in-hand. By leveraging a model with no upfront capital investment with Best.Energy, Transmed saw a transformation in their operational costs, with huge carbon reductions too (45,877kg CO2e saved).

Thanks to the granular data provided by Eniscope, power usage across the Transmed facility showed a progressive and consistent drop, with 9.34% savings achieved so far. This cut in energy consumption led to reduced operational expenditure, ultimately resulting in a net cash flow gain within just one month.

Partnering with Best.Energy highlights Transmed’s proactive approach to sustainability and operational excellence. They have successfully leveraged cutting-edge technology to set a benchmark for energy efficiency in the food distribution sector.

This success story isn’t just a win for Transmed, but a win for the wider FMCG sector too. It demonstrates the impact of energy monitoring and targeting in achieving sustainability goals without compromising food safety standards or operational efficiency.
