Best.Energy Kenya is proud to announce its pivotal role in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sustainable Hospitality Greening Initiative, in collaboration with Kibondeni College and key hospitality industry players, such as Mövenpick Hotel (part of the international Accor Group). This groundbreaking initiative aims to equip students with industry-ready competencies while fostering a culture of sustainability and energy efficiency that will not only benefit the students, but also revolutionise the hospitality sector across East Africa.
Transforming the Hospitality Sector through Sustainable Practices
Kenya’s economy is strongly dependent on tourism and natural resources, both of which are highly vulnerable to climate change. Recognising this, the Sustainable Hospitality Greening Initiative is designed to address the urgent need for sustainable development education and practical green solutions in vocational training. With Kenya aiming to become a middle-income country while pursuing low-carbon development, this initiative helps ensure that the hospitality sector remains competitive by integrating energy efficiency and sustainable practices.
Best.Energy Kenya’s Role in the Initiative
The Best.Energy Kenya team is honoured to have installed the award-winning Eniscope energy monitoring system at Kibondeni College. This state-of-the-art technology provides students with the tools to track energy consumption and make data-driven decisions that lead to significant reductions in energy use. By working with Kibondeni College to create a green TVET space, they’re helping students develop essential skills in energy management—skills that are increasingly in demand across the hospitality sector.
“We are immensely proud to contribute to this initiative and to help shape the future of Kenya’s hospitality industry. Our partnership with Kibondeni College will enable students to become leaders in energy-efficient practices, ensuring that they are not only job-ready but also equipped to address the challenges posed by climate change.” - Ivan Seka, Operations Director at Best.Energy Kenya.
Empowering the Future Workforce with Practical Training
The involvement of Best.Energy Kenya, alongside hospitality giants like Mövenpick, ensures that students from Kibondeni College are trained in real-world energy management practices. By integrating school-based learning with on-the-job training, the initiative creates a dynamic learning environment where students develop green competencies that are directly applicable to their future careers. Additionally, the development of a new curriculum, supported by Best.Energy Kenya, aligns educational outcomes with the needs of energy-conscious hotels.
Speaking about the impact of the collaboration, Ivan Seka added:
“Our EnCO (Energy Conscious Organisation) training for the Kibondeni team was a game-changer. It gave students and staff a comprehensive understanding of energy efficiency and its application in hospitality. The skills they’re gaining will help them drive sustainability in hotels, enabling substantial energy savings and creating a green culture within the sector.”
Regional and Sectoral Benefits
This initiative is a major step forward in fostering climate resilience across East Africa and beyond. By equipping students with energy management expertise, the program supports Kenya’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy solutions. Importantly, the initiative will have a far-reaching impact on the hospitality industry, which is a cornerstone of Kenya’s economy. Hotels stand to gain from the introduction of energy-efficient practices, leading to reduced operational costs, better resource management, and an overall enhanced reputation as environmentally responsible enterprises.
Supporting the Growth of Sustainable Hospitality
Best.Energy is committed to continuing their support for initiatives like the TVET Sustainable Hospitality Greening Initiative. As pioneers in energy efficiency, we understand that the future of hospitality lies in its ability to adopt sustainable practices. This initiative not only empowers the next generation of workers but also promotes environmental stewardship, ensuring that both the sector and the region can thrive in an increasingly climate-conscious world.
Through this partnership, the Kenya team is creating a blueprint for sustainability that can be replicated across the country and beyond. As we look toward the future, Best.Energy remain dedicated to providing innovative energy solutions and fostering partnerships that align with our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future for the world.
